Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!

I take my inspiration from the very famous Ms. Frizzle of the Magic School bus series whose favorite saying is "Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!" I believe that every child CAN learn and can master those difficult concepts that may be giving them trouble. I graduated with my bachelors in elementary education in December 2011 from the University of Central Florida. I also have my reading endorsement as well as my ESOL endorsement. As your child's tutor, I will first work to determin...

ADD/ADHD

Students with ADD or ADHD need teachers and tutors who understand their learning style. They get bored easily. I have discovered that many of these students can still hear you when it appears they are not paying attention. Often, students get in trouble at school for this. I also highly encourage the use of "fidgets" for children with ADD or ADHD. A fidget is a small object that children hold in their hand and "fidget" with while participating in a lesson. This allows the child to exercise his or her need to more or be doing something while still focusing on the lesson! I do not punish students for their own unique learning styles and attention needs. Instead, I embrace it. I do my best to find a way to reach every child! I tailor my lessons for children with ADD or ADHD to be fast paced while still really focusing on the concept that is to be mastered. My lessons are high on visuals and interactions. I make sure that we are not sitting the entire time! We get up and move! If we are working on subtraction, we may get up and learn a regrouping "dance." This is highly beneficial for a child with ADHD. Moving to a fun, repetitive song will help the idea of "regrouping" stick in the child's head. I graduated with my bachelor's in elementary education.

Miss Elizabeth was extremely patience and kind with my son. I would recommend her highly to anyone. My son was very against reading and even more against getting extra help to do so. Miss Elizabeth made it fun for him and he even looked forward to going to see her. What was better for me was he went from getting “NS’s” (Not Satisfactory) on his report card, to “S’s” (Satisfactory) and “P’s” (Proficient). I am a very happy mom.

Elizabeth is an outstanding tutor! She is patient and understanding. She took time to get to know our children and selects interactive lessons that engages them - even our very reluctant reader! The kids look forward to Elizabeth's visits and enjoy their time with her. We are very thankful to have found her!

Mrs. Elizabeth is a wonderful tutor. My daughter loves her. She takes the time to evaluate your child so she will know what point to start with the tutoring. Mrs. Elizabeth really cares about her students progress and does what it takes to help them succeed. Last year Mrs. Elizabeth even went to my daughters school to volunteer so she could get a better knowledge of what was expected in the classroom and then applied it to our sessions. She provides extra worksheets to help the parents at home and also gives helpful hints on what to work on with your child at home. She has a wonderful ability of understanding your child's learning style and applies that to her sessions. Thank you Mrs. Elizabeth for helping us pass 2nd grade last year!

Elizabeth has done an excellent job working with my 6th grade son. My son has improved tremendously after only a few sessions! She offers a great classroom environment and also provides you with a very detailed lesson review after each lesson. I highly recommend her!!

Ms. Elizabeth is very in tune with my child's needs; in a very short time. I am also very impressed with how she tailors the learning to the child's interests and strengths. My daughter, who fought me about going to a tutor, loves going to visit Ms. Elizabeth. Thank-you!

I really appreciate the time Elizabeth puts into planning her lessons! She looked in another piano book she had and found a song that worked on concepts my daughter is currently learning, but was more challenging than the typical songs in her lesson book. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to teaching! Kaylin is really enjoying her piano lessons!

My daughter enjoyed her lessons, and after only 2 weeks, math clicked a little more. Taking it a little slower/one thing at a time seems to help. I like how she keeps the lessons short and keeps moving. Parents of young children, if you are doing your lessons online, she does not want anyone but the child in the room. Sometimes parents need to help their younger children with the software on WyzAnt while using their online service. And if the internet is cutting out, you need to repeat to your child what Elizabeth is saying. But, this irritates her, and you may even get an email calling you a "distraction." I got accused of giving my child all the answers, but in reality I was actually just either repeating what Elizabeth was saying (because of internet lagging), or had to explain to Elizabeth numerous times that her camera was pointed the wrong way, and my child couldn't answer her question, because my child couldn't see what was on the screen! Also, she can't figure out how to use WyzAnt's screen sharing technology.
